Your News... In Real-Time!
At Bruce Middle School we've decided to go paperless with our newsletter.
There are two advantages to this:
- The saving of paper is a savings in costs and more importantly another step in our ongoing commitment to sustainability.
- By offering news in this format, we can now provide our community with real-time news as it happens, instead of waiting until the end of the month to send out information.

NUTRITION WEEK MAY 12-16
The St. James Assiniboia School Division
Healthy Schools Committee is promoting nutrition in the division during the
week of May 12-16 2014. This initiative has come as a direct result of the
Youth Health Survey Data (Grades 7-12) that shows that over 1/4 of our students
(SJASD) do not eat breakfast and of that population, 67% report they don't have
enough time to eat breakfast. Research states that eating breakfast improves
memory, concentration level, problem solving and creative thinking.
more information
Bruce Middle School will be supporting
nutrition education by hosting grab and go breakfasts available to ALL Bruce
students during Nutrition Week. Each
morning, simple but nutritious breakfasts will be available to our students
during BLAST attendance (8:45 AM). Each
breakfast will consist of items from 3 of the 4 food groups (Grain Products,
Milk and Alternatives, Vegetables and Fruit, Meat and Alternatives) as outlined
in the Canada Food Guide. Students may
choose to participate or not if they wish.
Please note that we will make every effort to maintain a nut-free
environment, however, individuals must make their own decision as to whether or
not the food items are appropriate for them.

Coaching
For Confidence
Presented by: Dr. Maria Phelps, School Psychologist, Educational
Support Services, St. James-Assiniboia School Division
Shyness and anxiety are normal human
emotions. Some children, however, are
much more shy or fearful than the average child. For these children, anxiety may interfere
with their enjoyment of school, activities with other children, new experiences
(swimming lessons, birthday parties, etc.), and their development of independence
and confidence. In this session, parents will learn about anxiety in children
aged four to seven and gain useful tools to help your children overcome this
problem.
Once registered for any session, if you
cannot attend, please be sure to cancel by contacting Arlie
Williams-Taylor at 885-9555 or email ptregistrations@sjsd.net
